The 308 R Concept isn't the only attention-grabbing production-based concept car coming from Peugeot. This 208 FE Hybrid Concept may look like it's just a regular 208 with cool wheels and no mirrors, but let's throw some stats at you: at 775kg, it's 200kg (440lbs) lighter than the base model 208! It'll also return 135mpg (112 US) and spit out just 49g/km of CO2. That's because it's a hybrid, with a novelty 12-mile all-electric range and a 40bhp motor supplementing the engine. Said engine started out as their 1.0 three-cylinder unit, before it was bored out to 1.2 litres and modified to run on the Atkinson Cycle, which makes it more efficient. That's literally all I know about the Atkinson Cycle. The engine is also expected to feature a racing cylinder head and diamond carbon coating - ooh, fancy - while the regular fuel tank has been replaced by a smaller one with a capacity of 20 litres. The 0-62mph time is around 8 seconds.
Out back, the rear has been given a more aerodynamic but quite blocky tail, while the wheels are low-drag 19-inchers on skinny, low-profile tyres, and the mirrors are now cameras, something I firmly believe should become available on every car as soon as possible.
Expect both concepts to appear at the Frankfurt Motor show in the middle of next month.

Hey I wanted to talk about that one too ! Couldn't find the pictures fast enough. It sure is an impressive concept, the guys at Peugeot Sport have been working on it for ages (and they never released any proper visuals until now). I wonder if it'll reach production in some form, or if it'll just serve as a technology demonstrator.

I don't like what they've done to the back.

Wow, I like the sound of that, anyone have ideas on how much it'd cost? Not that we'd get it here anyways. We need more hatch coupes IMHO.

I'd say more than the GTi, and it probably wouldn't be made in large numbers.

I do. It's probably how the 208 should have looked in the first place, IMO. The GTI would look excellent with that back end.

Hmmmm. Me likey. Especially the low weight coupled with that performance & those emission stats. I even prefer the aero tail over the cooking version.
Seems unlikely to make it in production for sensible money, tho.

That fueltank isn't big enough.
I get around 50-55mpg in my mother's Mini Clubman diesel, that has a 10 gallon tank. It is really annoying to have to fuel up so frequently. I'd say that even with 100+mpg it should have 30L of tank, as a minimum.
I just assume they had to cut things to get the consumption down...

Well, assuming (optimistically) that it actually gets 112US mpg, that's half the fuel going twice as far, so it averages out the same as your Chubman, plus you get up to 12 miles of running on no fuel thanks to the hybrid system, so you can always stretch to the next filling station.

Yes, that is the issue.
The range of my Mother's Clubman Diesel isn't close to long enough. Perhaps it isn't a dealbreaker, but it is still annoying.
